The one day relay starts in Courtenay, British Columbia on Vancouver Island and follows the spectacular scenic highway through
the picturesque Vancouver Island communities to Nanaimo.
Only eight runners required per team for eight stages or Ultra distances of
50 km or 100 km.
The Vancouver Island Relay was an island tradition from 1986 to 1998. Formerly a two day event, this legendary race has been
a battleground for teams of runners from North America, with 80-120 teams competing annually.
The newly designed Vancouver Island Relay began in 2001, forming a
one day event. Still offering the beauty of Vancouver Island, the
hospitality of the Relay Communities and the festive atmosphere, this
race attracts both elite and recreational level runners.
