Dear Fellow Club Fat Ass runners !

CFA Speaker Series - Team Mind over Mountain at Primal Quest - Press Release

NORTH VANCOUVER, BC (08 September 2006) — Next Wednesday, Club Fat Ass (CFA) will host their first in an ongoing series of free speaker events.  At this event, CFA member Gary Robbins and his team Mind Over Mountain (Mark Fearman, Aimee Dunn, Niels Torp Madsen) will share their adventures at this year’s Primal Quest Adventure Race in Utah.
Along with racers from all over the world, team Mind Over Mountain ran, biked, paddled and traversed over 800 km in 9 days, with only guts, determination and the aid of a map and compass.  Considered by many to be the toughest adventure race out there, Primal Quest provides the ultimate test of athletes’ teamwork, endurance and mental toughness.

Primal QuestTeam Mind Over Mountain was one of five Canadian teams.  They finished 41st out of 89 teams, an impressive accomplishment considering the team had never raced together prior to Primal Quest and none of the team members had ever raced longer than 36 hours.  Three of four team members had met and bonded through the local “Mind Over Mountain Adventure Racing” series and their shared love of the outdoors.  CFA members Robbins and Fearman had done a lot of shorter distance adventure races with little or no training.  In fact, Robbins is only in his third season of racing.  “Prior to March of 2004 I had only run more than 10 km three times in my entire life and somehow I managed to convince myself that an 800 km expedition race was within grasp for 2006,” he says.  Robbins now splits his time between adventure racing and trail running/snowshoe running and hosts the annual “Squamish Scrambler” snowshoe event through CFA.

Details of this evening of camaraderie and inspiration are as follows:
Wednesday 13 September 06 – starts promptly at 7:00 p.m.
North Shore Athletics, 1200 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver, BC

Admission is free to both members and non-members of Club Fat Ass, but all guests must pre-register online to insure a seat.

Go Deep or Go Home - Four pairs of Montrail running shoes up for grabs

Mark your calendar for the Go Deep and Go Home on August 26. This year marks another year where 4 pair of Montrail are up for grabs to anyone completing any of the distances. No one ever has completed the 80km yet and if they do, I might consider having a special 1 pair for the 80km distance.

North Shore Enduro - 6 Hour Run/Relay

The pub is booked, the door prizes plentiful, so come out and raise a toast to the Enduro! There's one catch - you have to run 6-hours first. For more information, check out the Enduro website.
