'Been thinking of jumping into a Club Fat Ass event, but 'still a little timid?
We've heard there are trail runners who are scared of Club Fat Ass. "That club is only for hard-cores", they say. "No course marking? What if I get lost?" "Their run distances are only for super-humans." "It doesn't seem right to not pay $30, $40, $50 or more for a run." Or just, "Those fat-asses are nuts!"
Here's a chance to see if what they say is true...
Come try out a Club Fat Ass (CFA) event for free. While all Club events are free to members, non-members are asked to join for the day to help with overhead costs like prizes, insurance and the "online clubhouse." Once or twice a year, though, the members of Club Fat Ass invite friends and fellow runners to join them for free. The next "free for all" event is Ann's Get Your Fat Ass Off The Couch Run on 18 October 2008.
Now in its 6th year, Ann's run features very runable trails and a bit of road in the Lower Seymour Mountain area of North Vancouver, British Columbia. The mountain air is usually crisp with a hint of fall leaves. Distances of 10km or 20km make this a great event for less experienced trail runners and yes, all registered participants get a free beer and a chance at some great draw prizes!
What's the catch? You need to be a CFA virgin... in other words, you've never participated in a Club Fat Ass event in the past.
Good to go? The 2-step registration process only takes you 2 minutes and also gets you all set up to partipate in the "online clubhouse".
- First, take advantage of the trial membership. Click on membership registration, fill in your contact info and be sure to select "Trial Membership". After submitting your registration, ignore the payment options.
- Second, tell Ann you are coming to her run by registering for it. You can find all of the information about the event on the Ann's Get Your Fat Ass Off The Couch Run website.
First-timers at Club Fat Ass events are usually surprised at how helpful and welcoming Club members are. We aim to pair you up with someone of your ability so you don't get lost or eaten by the bears. Hope to see you on Saturday the 18th!
