Course
- Short - A beautiful 5.8 mile loop around the lake and up into the woods and back. The loop around the lake is graveled and rolling. The trail up into the woods is well used single track.
- Long - the long course starts off midway though the short and continues up on roads and single track to the towers on Galbraith / lookout mountain. From the towers the trail winds it’s way down around the mountain and back to the finish.
Getting to the Start
- Approximate travel time from Vancouver is 2 hours, including an estimated 30min at the border but may be more. After crossing the border Lake Padden is 40 minutes south.
- From the Blaine border crossing head down I-5 to Bellingham. Take exit 252 and take a left over the freeway. At the stoplights turn right onto Samish way. Follow Samish way up for about 2 miles. You should see the park entrance on the right. There are two entrances you want to take the first on the right. Park near the restrooms. Parking is free.
- From the south take exit 246 and head up Samish way for 3 miles. Take the second entrance to the park on the left. Park near the restrooms.
- if your running late you might be able to catch the group running up from padden at around 10:00
- Directions for late start coming from the north - Instead of turning in to the park continue for about another mile down Samish way at the top of the hill on your right is a parking lot we will be running through at about 10:00. Give me a call if you need to catch up 360-927-6036 also good if you get lost on the trail. There is cellphone service on the mountain.
Getting to the showers
- After the run you can take a shower at the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center at 1114 Potter Street (map). Showers are $1.50. From the park head north on Samish way. When you get to the lights continue straight onto Lincoln for another mile. Fred Meyers will be on your left. Go straight at the stop lights, then take the first right onto Potter Street. You'll see the pool on the right.
What to bring
- $ for showers and a change of clothes
- Appropriate clothing for weather conditions
- Water for your run and snacks for the trail
- if coming from Canada, make sure to bring your travel documents and travel insurance
Post-Run Party
- By popular demand the Post run Party is at the Espinoza Mexican Restaurant.
- From the park go north on Samish way to the stop lights take a left and cross the freeway. Then take the first left and head to the starbucks. At the Starbucks turn right and look to the back of the parking lot. You are there.
- From the pool back track down Lincoln to the intersection at Samish way. take a right over the freeway then the first left head in to the starbucks. At the Starbucks turn right and look to the back of the parking lot.
