Bob, Isao and Jeff took off and , after a little bit of reorientation and re grouping, tookoff again leaving Caroline Isao and I as the caboose. After some beach walking on Bear Beach and some ankle wading on Sombrio , we were all well and working our way to Botanical Beach and the ride back. We had a happy time even though we had to deal with a lot of deepish mud. I have never run it that muddy. The lads,Jeff and Bob ran the whole trail in 7:55 We did it in 9:32. No major injuries, many wonderful views I waded through the Sombria river up to my hips and fried my camera! (time for an upgrade.)

Tuesday April 29, 2008
Start:
Join the "Fools" (Karl Jensen, Chad Hyson, Gilles Barbeau and John Machray), friend of the Fools Lucinda Iglesias, STORMY 100-mile Run RD Wendy Montgomery, folks from Kintec Footlabs, Club Fat Ass, a few friends and curious for an evening of tales from the fringe of ultrarunning: the 100-miler.
The Fools claim to be absolutely normal, yet they run 100-milers... apparently on a whim. Isn't that an oxymoron? How do they do it? Why do they do it? Could you run 100-miles, too? Why might you want to?
There will be entertaining stories about long distance trail running, some more foolish than others, that will have you itching to lace up your trail shoes. Even if you rather have a root canal than run 100 miles, you'll appreciate the humour and insights into what makes these "fools" keep on going (and going, and going....) You'll also hear why running a 100-miler is the easy part when you learn what it takes to "crew" a 100-mile runner.

A couple of years ago, in preparation for the Vancouver 100 (V100), Tim Wiens and I went on a recon mission from the 1/2 way point on the V100 route (start of the Knee Knacker race) over Black Mountain and down to Cleveland Dam to check out the "trail" (read "snow") conditions -- see Bill and Tim's Excellent Adventure.
Given the current snow conditions on the local mountains (considerably more than during our first Adventure), I know that more than a couple of us are interested in knowing what lays in store for this year.

So the "Monty" is looming and from my recent exposure to the Squamish region, the Monty hills are shorter, and the trail a real "no brainer".

Get back to the start to marshall the 1/2 Monty, start the short run, then run sweep!
