On the Trails Again - Jackson Does Willie Nelson

Sometimes I get a tune in my head that I can't shake. I'm a big fan of Willie Nelson and today was one of those days... especially because I've been injured for a while and have been missing the trails. So with a tip of the hat to Willie, here's something to hum the next time you are on the trails!  (Yes, I do karoke at race finisher parties.  See my agent  =;-)

Missing The Fools

The morning started with a loud knocking waking me out of deep sleep.  "Oh shoot", I thought, "that is my running buddy... why did I not hear my alarm?"  Still half asleep I glanced at my watch (but being half blind I didn't realize that it was way too early for my running partner to be knocking at my door), jumped out of bed, raced downstairs, opened

North Shore Bliss

Having been born at Lions Gate Hospital and having lived on the North Shore for all of my life it could be easy to take this place for granted. But I don't. I often hear of people complaining about the rain, the cold, the expense etc. I guess complainers are just complainers and I grew up in a family where complaining is a no no.

The 1/2 Monty preview run

Dan and I got back to basics today,3:23:XX for the official 1/2 Monty course. The weather was warm and sunny, both Dan and I were admiring the many views of the Gulf Islands, Finlayson Arm and the Saanich inlet.

S#@t Happens in Threes

Plain 100

I came today across the website of this 100 miler run on the Cascade mountains; maybe for others here (read: fools) this run is old news.
And if this race is not yet part of ultra folklore, I'm sure it's fast on its way there.

100 ("+"...) miles, No flagging, no t-shirt, no pacers, no aid stations, "you receive nothing from anyone", no stashing, and to top it all off properly - "if someone figures out what they think is a cool way to use the above rules to their advantage over their fellow runners, I reserve the right to disqualify them."

The Spring Bunny Hop.

My training partner and now fellow fat asser, Peter McQuillan skied half the course of the Spring Bunny Hop today to find there is a base of at least 2 feet of snow and 19 days to melt it. For Ontario this is unusually for this time of year. Normally I am able to run these trails year around, but this year we've been skiing a solid two months, I don't know if my running shoes still fit. Tomorrow I guess I have go back to road running.(dirt roads that is.) Is anybody interested in x-country skiing it? That might be the only way around. We're still expecting more snow.
